Steamboat at Hawkinsville, Georgia

Ocmulgee River steamboat at Hawkinsville

Organized in July 1886 and chartered in December of that year, the Atlanta & Hawkinsville Railroad Company was authorized to build a line from Atlanta to the middle Georgia steamboat port of Hawkinsville, or to Thomasville, or to both places. Very little was accomplished and in 1887 the line was renamed the Atlanta & Florida Railroad. Georgia's Railroad History & Heritage. © Steve Storey.
