At Stone Mountain Park, 15 miles east of Atlanta, the Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad takes visitors on a 30-minute trip around the huge granite monolith. The 4-mile standard-gauge line opened in 1962 utilizing part of the rail bed of an earlier quarry line. (See Atlanta, Stone Mountain & Lithonia Railway.)
