General Griffin Monument

Statue of Lewis Lawrence Griffin

General Lewis Lawrence Griffin, one of Georgia's early railroad builders, pioneered the Monroe Railroad which was constructed between Macon, Forsyth, and Griffin in the 1830s and early 1840s. He established the city of Griffin alongside the railroad, laying out lots which were sold to support the fledgling enterprise and encourage rail commerce in the area.

Griffin's statue stands in front of the Griffin City Hall.

The city of Griffin is in Spalding County, about 50 miles south of Atlanta. Georgia's Railroad History & Heritage. © Steve Storey
