Macon & Atlantic Railway

Macon & Atlantic Railway

The Macon & Atlantic Railway was planned as part of a larger system involving new rail lines running from Macon to three neighboring states. To Florida would be the Georgia Southern & Florida; to Alabama would be the Macon & Birmingham; and to South Carolina would be the Macon & Atlantic.

Some 11.5 miles of M&A track in Laurens County had been completed when the railroad's builder, the Macon Construction Company, entered receivership. Its property was sold under foreclosure Nov. 30, 1892, and the Atlantic Short Line Railway was organized as its successor.
